Pressure to dredge

A1090

There are some in our community who see water rise in the Salmon River floodplain on the outskirts of Fort Langley and think dredging the river would be a good idea because it would stop this from happening. It wouldn’t and here’s why.

Eagles are a good indicator

eagle count-annually

Where there are eagles, you will likely find salmon. However, the eagle count in the Squamish area was down considerably this year.

And a member of SRES notes that in his 17 years of watching for coho on Union Creek off 56th Ave., this is the first year when he saw just one eagle arriving very late, found only one coho carcass, and saw no salmon. “They are not there and did not come in droves.”
